LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER - Paintings and Drawings opens on Friday Nov 2nd with a Reception from 6-8 pm.
Barbara has been an active member of the art community on Quadra Island since the day she arrived from Vancouver in 1998. Her formal training incldes a diploma of Fine Arts from Vancouver Community College followed by printmaking studies at Emily Carr College of Art and Design.
Since then she has exprimented with seeral mediums including drawing, printmking painting and colage. Many of Barbara's peices combine two or more mediums.
Following her mother's example, Sovay has been drawing and painting since she could first hold a pencil. her art studies include several courses at the Art Gallery of Winnipeg. Expectlot of big bold shapes in big bold colours in this debut exhibit of Sovay's works.

Opening Reception
A thrill to be showing alongside my daughter! So, in the spirit of generatoins, of younger and older, I've chosen a couple of never-before-shown pieces from my student years (when Sovay was a todler) to exhibit with my latest work.
Eclectic, "borrowing freely from various sources', is and has always been an apt description of my approach to art. I recreate what captures my imagination today using whatever mixture of techniques that work for the image in my mind. thus, in this show you'll find a monoprint in oil, a silk screen, an ink drawing, a couple of combinations of drawing and watercolour and a mixture of drawing and collagraph printing. Take a look, through my mind's eye, at a foxglove, an old bent fir, a sleeping dog, a sunset and a bit of highway.
